IGP approves promotion of 558 police school teachers

Inspector-General of Police; Solomon Arase has approved the promotion of 558 teachers in police primary and secondary schools across the country.
Police sources disclosed that the promotion which takes immediate effect was meant to address the complaints among the teaching staff and also to motivate them to perform better.
The Director, Directorate of Police Education, DCP Kabiru Ibrahim, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, explained that the teachers would soon receive their letters of promotion.
According to him, the IG was interested in making police schools one of the best in the country hence the increasing investment in academic facilities and the teaching staff to ensure a high quality of students.
“It is my pleasure to inform you that the IG has approved the upgrading and promotion of 558 teachers in all police primary and secondary schools nationwide.
“We believe that with this promotion, our teachers would be better motivated to give their best and to ensure that the schools produce academically sound and well-rounded students,” Ibrahim explained.
Meanwhile, the IG has said that 400 residential apartments would be completed by January, 2016 for purchase by retiring police officers.
Making the disclosure at the commissioning of the Police Multi-purpose Shopping Mall in Abuja yesterday, Arase said that the Nigeria Police Cooperative and Multi-purpose Society has developed and acquired a number of housing projects across the country which was being sold at affordable rates to police personnel.
He advised retiring police officers who are interested in acquiring the buildings to go to their home states and apply through the police cooperative multi-purpose society.
Arase stated that the facility was conceptualized as a major retail outlet that will make available a wide array of stocks at the cheapest and most competitive rate to serving police personnel and members of the public.
The IG lauded the leadership of the cooperative society for constructing the mall, “which is in furtherance of my commitment to the enhancement of the welfare needs of police personnel.”
He said, “Beyond the shopping mall that is being commissioned today (Tuesday), the society has developed and acquired a number of housing projects across the country which are being sold at affordable rates to police personnel, while it also extends soft loans to meet the welfare needs of personnel.”
Meanwhile the Police Service Commission has approved the elevation of 986 senior Police officers including one CP TO AIG, 5 DCPs TO CP, 16 ACPs TO DCP, 21 CSPs to ACP, 3 SPs to CSP, 9 DSPs to SP AND 931 ASPs to DSP.
In a statement also disclosing Mr. Emmanuel Ibe as Acting Secretary of the Commission, the Commission said, “CP Shuaiba L. Gambo is promoted to the next substantive rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police while DCP Jonah Jackson Mava, Olusola Babajide David, Titus Sumba Lamorde, Chika Abubakar Maidama and Abdullahi Chafe Ibrahim were elevated to the next rank of Commissioner of Police.
“The Commission also approved the elevation of 16 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, 21 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners and 3 Superintendents to Chief Superintendent. It also approved the promotion of 9 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents and 931 Assistant superintendents to Deputy Superintendents.
“Two acting DCPs, four acting ACPs and one acting CSP were also confirmed. All the promotions take effect from the 16th of December 2015.
“The Commission also resolved 12 Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM), approving the reduction in rank of two officers, severe reprimand for another two and reprimand for four. One officer is to receive a letter of advice while three others were exonerated.
“Meanwhile the Commission approved the appointment of Emmanuel C. Ibe as acting Secretary to the Commission. Mr. Ibe until his appointment was the Director of Administration and Finance. He is coming into his new office with an intimidating profile.
“He was Special Assistant to the former Chairman of the Commission, and presently the Chairman of the Nigerian of Institute of Management, NIM, Federal Capital Territory. Mr. Ibe is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (chartered) and a Member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
