$2.1bn Armsgate: EFCC Boss explains why Jonathan may not be invited.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed on Monday that it had not invited former President Goodluck Jonathan in connection with the $2. 1billion arms money that was allegedly diverted because so far no document has implicated the former President of complicity or authorizing diversion of the funds.
Acting chairman of EFCC Ibrahim Magu, made the disclosure while offering explanation to journalists in Lagos.

The money meant for arms purchase was said to have been diverted by the Office of former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, for political purposes ahead of the 2015 general elections.

According to Magu, there has not been any document suggesting that Jonathan authorized diversion of the $2.1 billion which he approved for purchase of arms to fight insurgency.

According to the EFCC boss who interacted with the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, all those questioned so far in connection with the money were people who disbursed or collected it for reasons other than the purchase of arms and ammunition.

“All approvals by former President Jonathan did not mention that it was for political purposes.

“All the memos approved by him were for the purchase of arms”.

Apart from the former NSA Dasuki that was arrested, prominent politicians and a media mogul, Raymond Dokpesi, have been arrested as beneficiaries of the money.

Some political parties who did not field presidential candidates in the 2015 general elections also benefitted from the funds superintended by the former NSA.

It will be recalled that the leaders of the Accord Party, Rashidi Ladoja and Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Falae, were said to have collected N100 million each on behalf of their respective political parties.

Also, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, is currently being detained by the EFCC as the sum of N400 million is said to have been traced to his account.
Mr. Magu said that on the part of Brigadier General Jafaru Isa, a chieftain of the APC, he has returned the sum of N100million out of the N170million he collected from Dasuki noting that his release by the EFCC is to enable him source for and return the remaining N70million.
