Army Chief commends’ IGP Arase over arrest of Col. Yunusa’s killers.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has expressed commendation to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase for the efforts of his officers and men in tracking and arresting the killers of Colonel Samaila Yunusa.

“On behalf of the families of late Colonel Samaila Inusa, officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army wishes to thank the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase for tracking and arresting the kidnappers and murderers of the late Colonel Samaila Inusa of the Nigerian Army and smashing the deadly kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate” Buratai said.

“The Army Chief specifically wishes to thank the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Kaduna State Command Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) operatives for their dedication to duty and professionalism that led to the arrest of the criminals that abducted and killed the late senior officer in Kaduna metropolis, Kaduna State on 27th March this year” he added in a statement.

The statement signed by Col Sani Usman, said, “This unprecedented feat is a clear manifestation of the excellent cooperation existing between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police which had flourished over time in joint operations to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians.

“The Chief of Army Staff urges personnel of the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police to continue working hard towards sustaining the excellent cooperation and synergy between them”.

Meanwhile, former Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman has resumed office as the Commissioner of Police in charge (CP) for the Federal Capital Territory.

He took over from Mr. Wilson Inalegwu who has been appointed the Commandant of Police Training College, Kaduna.

Speaking at handover ceremony, CP Usman said he would operate an open door policy for residents and other stakeholders for effective policing of the territory noting that security issues especially crime fighting is no longer the prerogative of the police alone but the entire citizenry.

Emphasizing that he will continue with all effective strategies adopted by his predecessor to fight crime in the federal capital, the new CP who served as Area Commander, Metro and later Deputy CP in the FCT before moving to Delta, noted that those strategies that needed refining will be retooled in due cause.

To the management team of the FCT Command, he said, “I am going to continue to rely on the management team’s contribution to run the command. If I fail, it will not be me alone”.

Earlier, the CP Inalegwu said that the FCT, with over 16,000 officers, worked round the clock to ensure security under his command.

He said many pro-active measures were put in place to make FCT the most peaceful state in the country leading to the command being able to burst two notorious gangs who specialized in robbing estates in the city.

Inalegwu pointed out that the robust partnership with stakeholders in the territory including sister security agencies like the DSS, NSCDC, Army also helped the command in its mandate, stressing that “the police command in FCT has become the pride of residents.”

He then urged residents of the FCT to extend same cooperation given to him to the new commissioner for him to provide adequate security in the territory.
