Bauchi Police Smash, Nab kidnap Gang, Recover Arms
The Bauchi State police command has smashed a kidnapping syndicate that had been terrorising some parts of the state.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said police detectives attached to the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit led by ASP Mustapha Mohammed raided various hideouts in Kibni, Mada and Kajut forests all in Bauchi and Ganjuwa local government areas of Bauchi State.
The suspects arrested include; Ahmed Yusuf alias Dare of Mada village,
Abdulhameed Abubakar of Dubur village and Saleh Haruna of Kajitu in Bauchi Local Government Area.
Other suspects arrested were; Ahmadu Adamu Alias Haro of Kajitu village, Usman Musa alias Maikudi of Mada village and Ahmed Mohammed.
The statement said, “All suspects confessed to have organised series of kidnappings and collected ransom ranging from N50, 000 to millions of Naira from their victims”.
DSP Haruna said a discreet investigation further led to the rescue of kidnapped victims from the various hideouts raided by the police.
The victims rescued are: Ayuba Sa’idu and Umaru Saidu both of Bojinji Bauchi Local Government Area.
Mohammed said that arms recovered from the gang include; one fabricated gun, three cutlasses, bow and arrows.
Other items recovered are; three mobile phones used to negotiate ransom payments and four Bajaj motorcycles used for the kidnapping.
The police spokesperson said that the case is still under investigation after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
