    Gender Violence: Police Set up Forensic department at FCID.

    Following the increase in cases of rape and violence against women and young girls, the Police High Command has established a forensic detection and investigation unit at the Force Criminal Investigations Department to ensure justice to those violated.

    Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase who made the disclosure yesterday, when he played host to a delegation from IPAS, promised to improve on the existing partnership between the Nigeria Police and the non-governmental organization with focus on promoting women reproductive rights and ensuring justice for victims of gender crimes.

    The IPAS delegation was led by Dr. Nihinlola Mabogunje (IPAS country director) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

    The visiting IPAS delegation recounted their collaborations with the Nigeria Police Force to include training of over four hundred and fifty (450) Police personnel on handling gender based issues.

    The Police boss maintained that the Police are gender sensitive as evident in the establishment of a technical platform at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) Abuja to handle Forensic investigation of gender cases.

    He further promised to connect IPAS with the technical platform as well as other gender desks across the nation.
