INSECURITY: AIR CHIEF TASK’S AWO’s RSM’s ON DISCIPLINE.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has reiterated the importance of service discipline, alertness and professionalism in the military especially as the armed forces were at the verge to bringing to an end, the security challenges confronting the nation in the North East.
Towards ensuring that these core tenets are adhered to, for maximum effect in the NAF, the CAS Wednesday said Air Warrant Officers (AWOs) and Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) have critical roles to play in the ongoing effort to reposition the service.
Air Marshal Abubakar made the disclosure at the quarterly meeting of the AWOs and RSMs while reminding them of their roles in maintaining discipline and professionalism in the service.
His words, “It is a forum where we are able to interact; where we are able to communicate, clear doubts and also give them guidelines on what is expected in the force.”

“Our focus is on repositioning the Air Force in ensuring that we are operating as professionals; and professionalism and regimentation in the service is a very important area of interest that we have, and the RSMs play a very important role and that is why we meet with them on quarterly bases.”
Continuing, he said, “If you have very sound RSMs, then Commanders have little problems and that is why we normally bring them here on quarterly basis to remind them of their responsibilities, and to remind them that they have a critical role to play in repositioning the air force into a highly professional service.
“So, that is the role that I think is important for them to keep playing so that we can get to where we want to get to,” he added.
Earlier, Chief of Policy and Plans, AVM James Gbum said the NAF placed a high premium on the forum considering the bridging roles the Senior Non Commission Officers (NCOs) play in the promotion and inculcation of core values of discipline, integrity, professionalism, excellence, as well as regimentation and inter-service cooperation.
He emphasized that the AWOs and RSMs are vital agents of change in the ongoing efforts by CAS to rejuvenate the spirit of comradeship and regimentation in all units.
Gbum however implored them to use the opportunity provided by the forum to assimilate novel ideas that are vital to the actualization of the CAS vision.
