Nigeria Police, Governors Ajimobi, Ahmed, Emir of Ilorin mourn ex-IGP Sunday Adewusi
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has commiserated the family of the former IGP of the Nigerian Police force, Sunday Adewusi over the death of the former IG.

A statement signed by FPRO, ACP Olabisi Kolawole said “Nigeria Police Force announces the news of the death of former IGP Sunday A. Adewusi, who passed away at the National Hospital, Abuja on Tuesday 26th January, 2016, and expresses deepest condolences and sympathy to the families and loved ones of the late IGP.

“IGP Arase, while describing the late Chief Sunday Adewusi as a Nigerian hero who served his nation proudly, as a Police officer, even at retirement, said he was a transformational leader whose tenure as Inspector-General of Police between1981-1983 remains impactful, across several generations of Police officers.
“The IGP noted that throughout his life, he remained a strong member of the Police family; attending all Police official events, even up to the last Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary celebration.

“Late Chief Sunday Adewusi, according to the IGP, was a beacon of hope to the Nigeria Police Force, just as he remained an advocate of policing throughout his life.

“While the entire members of the Nigeria Police family mourn the loss of a great police icon, the IGP noted that the same family also celebrates his remarkable life and hoped that it serves as an example to all and sundry across the nation, to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves.

“The IGP therefore urged the families, friends and indeed all Nigerians to take solace in the knowledge that he has gone to be with his Maker and he is surely resting in the bosom of the Almighty God.

“Meanwhile, the IGP has set up a Committee to liaise with the family to give him a befitting burial that he deserves.

Also, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, his Kwara State counterpart, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on Wednesday described the death of the former Inspector General of Police, as a colossal loss to the nation.
They asserted that his demise was as a great loss to the government and the people of the two states.
Governor Ahmed described the death of the former Inspector General of Police, as a national loss of immense proportions.
According to the statement by his Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, Governor Ahmed said the late Chief Adewusi was a police officer who not only rose to the pinnacle of his career but contributed immensely to nation building.
He said the late police boss was an elder statesman whose vast experience in security matters was of great value to the state and Nigeria at large.
The governor extended his commiserations to the family of the deceased, the Soun and the people of Ogbomoso as well as the government and people of Oyo State
Inn his message Governor Ajimobi lamented the death of the foremost police officer who made history as the youngest IG ever in the country to take charge at the Kem Salem House, where he instilled discipline in the rank and file of the force.
A statement by the governor’s Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, recalled that the era of the late Adewusi as the nation’s number one cop was a defining moment that brought the best out of the officers and men of the police.
Similarly, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari in his condolence message described Late Sunday Adewusi as a diligent police officer who rose to become the youngest Commissioner police in the history of Nigeria at the age of 32 and later became the Inspector General at age 45.
“Not only that, after he retired from the active service of the police, Late Adewusi volunteered himself to contribute to the food security process for the nation through his modern farming system which provided jobs for many citizens”, he said.
