Over 7,000 Residents of Borno Town Return After 2-Yr Exile
Following the liberation of Nigerian communities from the Boko Haram terrorists, over 7, 000 residents of the yown of Gomboru Ngala in Borno State have returned
home after two years in exile.
Recall that Nigerian troops reclaimed Gomboru Ngala five months ago from the sect resulting in the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Buratai leading top generals to raise the Nigerian flag in the town.
Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Abdulrahman Abdulkarim disclosed to journalists on Saturday in Maiduguri that he visited in Gomboru Ngala on Thursday where he met with the over 7, 000 civilians to distribute relief materials to them and Fotokol town in Cameron.
He however noted that the situation in the local government was still far from the ideal.
“Although almost all our homes are burnt but they agreed to share houses with their neighbors and they are ready to protect themselves from any attack’ he said.
“We jointly provided relief materials to them with according to the size of the families. Each of the families was given a bag of rice, grain, oil and cooking condiments to start their life.
“We need paramilitary to secure our borders so that whoever wants to go in will be screened at the border.
“Our people are ready to support the security agencies. In fact the military are already on ground and are doing good job there.
“We have more 7000 people that have returned as at last Thursday. So more people are still coming. In fact they are eager to come back to
come” he stated.
It will be recalled that Boko Haram insurgents invaded the border town of Gomboru Ngala located between Nigeria and Cameron in 2014, where hundreds of civilians were killed and over 50,000 residents were forced out of their homes either
to Cameroon or Maiduguri and Adamawa state.
