Planned Abuja Invasion: Troops Arrest 92 Herdsmen, Recovers 46 Guns; 118 Cartridge Ammunition.
Officers of Nigerian Army’s Guard’s Brigade have foiled an attempted invasion of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja by heavily armed Fulani herdsmen from both the Nasarawa and the Gwagwalada axis.
After arrests of the 92 herdsmen, soldiers discovered hidden arms and ammunition including 46 Guns, 118 Cartridge ammunition, 82 Cutlasses and knives as well as assorted charms and drugs among other dangerous weapons.
Giving details of the arrest in a statement yesterday, Spokesman for Guards Brigade, Captain Bashir Jajira said, “The Guards Brigade arrested suspected Fulani headsmen on Sunday 17th April 2016 at about 16. 30hrs along Keffi, Nasarawa State.

“A group of 36 headsmen in a DYNA Truck and a Toyota Camry Car with Registration number ABJ KUJ 994 FX and Niger Sul 541 XA were intercepted and arrested at 177 Guards Battalion locations by Keffi Checkpoint.
“During interrogation by troops, they claimed that they were going to Nasarawa LGA of Nasarawa state.
“After a thorough check of the vehicles, the following items were recovered-1 pump action gun, 19 Catridge Dan Guns, 118 Cartridge ammunition; 28 Cutlasses, 3 Jackknives, 6 Torch lights, assorted charms and hard drugs, 14 heavy sticks and a C of O.
“The suspects will be handed over to the Police for investigation and prosecution after preliminary investigation.
“In the same vein, on Sunday 17 April, about 56 herdsmen were arrested in Dantata-Gwagwalada area of Abuja.
“Items recovered from them include 26 Cartridge Dane Guns, 49 Cutlasses and Knives.
“They however claimed they were looking for those who stole their cows.”
