Why Police TV Series was initiated – IGP Arase.

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has stated that the idea of the Nigerian Police TV series titled ‘Beyond Your Sight’ was aimed at  re-branding and bridging the gap between the Police and its public and advancing the social component of policing in Nigeria.

Speaking at the premiere of the TV series last night in Abuja, the IGP said, “The Nigeria Police under my leadership has aligned policing in our country to best international practices where TV Series highlighting exploits of the Police and criminal activities are utilized to strengthen internal security”.

“In this instance, reference is made to global Police and Crime TV Series like ‘Law and Order’, ‘NYPD Blues’, ‘CSI’ in USA; and ‘The Bill’ in the UK.

“These TV series will therefore, document the landmark operational, intelligence, investigative and prosecutorial exploits of the Nigeria Police Force over the years.

“The aim is to showcase the professional capacity and achievements of the Police as a strategy towards restoring public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

Continuing Arase said, “It is my expectation that in the long-term, the TV series being premiered today will aid the rebranding process of the Force, enhance personal security of citizens, and galvanize Nigerians to their obligations within the national security space of our beloved country”.

While commending multiple awards winning movies Producer, Lancelot Odua Imasuen for demonstrating his expertise, as the Producer and Director of the Police TV series, Arase acknowledged the prominent Nollywood actors who will feature in the TV Series, including household brands like Desmond Elliot and Segun Arinze, among others.

Earlier, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole noted that ‘Beyond your sight’ is not just a movie, “It is a work that documents the professional competency of the Nigeria Police Force in carrying out its constitutional functions, in spite of its institutional challenges”.

“The objective of this television series is not only to showcase the achievement of the Nigeria Police Force but also a confidence building technique that will encourage Nigerians to have faith in their own Police Force”.

“It is also to educate the policemen and women on how to better relate and partner with the police, hence projecting that popular parlance “Police is Your Friend and Partner”.

She added, “I am pleased to disclose that the setup of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Solomon Arase has effectively given the member of the Force an edge over the criminal element in our society.”
