Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday stormed the National Assembly kicking against the planned suspension of Senator Kabiru Marafa over alleged unguarded statement against the Senate and its President, Senator Bukola Saraki .
The protesters acting under the aegis of Open Society Coalition also called for the immediate resignation of the Senate President.
They said he should resign in order to face his trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.
The protesters who besieged NASS carried placards bearing various inscriptions .
Some of the inscriptions read, “Suspend Saraki not Marafa, “stop suspending members, leave the Senate and face CCT”.
“Democracy survives on inclusiveness not in suspending people of different opinion”, “NASS Centre of Democracy not Facist Centre”.
Recall that the ethics committee of the Senate began sitting on Monday to probe allegations against Marafa.
The embattled senator from Zamfara snubbed the committee only for his supporters to turn the heat on Saraki and the Senate.
