“When compared to other states with cases of rampaging herdsmen, like Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna and Niger, I will say the relationship between herdsmen and farmers in the FCT are cordial”.
The Commissioner of police meeting with strategic stakeholders was aimed at fashioning out measures to address internal security threats and to address the misinformation, anxiety and animosity generated in relation to the current security challenges associated with local communities and herdsmen.
The CP said: “The security situation in the FCT is not bad, although we have few challenges. I am glad to note that in the FCT, the relationship between herdsmen and farmers is very cordial, we have had incidences of clash but they were quickly resolved through the help of our community leaders.
He charged traditional rulers and community heads to be more sensitive adding that their sensitive will aid the fading away of strange ideologies and insurgency.
“At this time in Nigeria, we should be interested in what goes on around us; we should play our role by developing our power of observation and not leave anything to chance.
On the use of hard drugs, the CP said: “we have vibrant youths but we have to do something about the use of Indian hemp and cannabis. We made some arrest of drug users and seizures in Mpape, Zuba, Dei-dei, Gwagwalada, Kubo and other places.
“This is rampant around Dei-dei, and this trend has to stop. One thing we must know is that these drugs are brought into the FCT because Indian hemp is not cultivated here in Abuja. We all have to be vigilant if we want the usage to stop.
“Our children and our youths are our future, if our children are destroyed by drugs and cultism, then we will lose hope. I want us to come together by giving timely and valuable information about the movement of trucks that conveys Indian hemp into the FCT because I have not seen where Indian hemp is cultivated in FCT and this means that they come from outside.
“We are doing lots of sensitization and we are working closely with our partner, the NDLEA. We have conducted a lot of raids especially during our joint operation and we made a lot of seizures.
“All we are saying is that parents should keep an eye on their children and the kind of company they keep”, he added.
