Army deny reports of Boko Haram threats to take over Adamawa town

The Nigerian Army Monday, 30th December 2019, debunked media reports m that members of the Boko Haram terrorist group captioned, “Breaking: Boko Haram Terrorists Attempt To Take Over Adamawa Town, Army Resist Move With Heavy Gunfire”

Two media outlets claimed that the troops of the Nigerian Army were engaged in a battle with Boko Haram criminals who were attempting to seize Madagali Town in Adamawa State.

However, the Nigerian Army, while reacting to the news reports, said it was untrue and mischievous, adding that such incident had not happened.

According to a statement by Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, the Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, expressed with dismay that the controversial report further stated that the troops successfully repelled the attack and that no casualty was recorded on the part of the troops.

“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a false report published on 28 December 2019 with a headline “Breaking: Boko Haram Terrorists Attempt To Take Over Adamawa Town, Army Resist Move With Heavy Gunfire” in which it was alleged that troops of the Nigerian Army were engaged in a battle with Boko Haram criminals who were attempting to seize Madagali Town in Adamawa State” the statement said.

This false publication was also attributed to in a misleading hausa online publication by hausa.legit.ng on the same day, 28 December 2019 captioned ‘SOJOJI NA FAFATAWA DA YAN BOKO HARAM DAKE KOKARIN KARBE WANI GARI A ADAMAWA” the statement added.

However, the Nigerian Army termed the two reports as deliberate attempt to instill fear and cause disaffection among the residents of Adamawa State and Nigerians at large, adding that no such encounter ever happened as reported by the Sahara Reporters and hausa.legit.ng.

Colonel Iliyasu said that the troops of the Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE habe pursuit the remnants of criminal Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents from their hideouts in the North East under the newly launched special operation nicknamed ‘Operation RUFE KOFA’.

It would be recalled that the men of the Nigerian Army have conducted a robust clearance operation on 24 December 2019 from Madagali through Waga Lawan, Jaje to Fadama in Madagali LGA of Adamawa State where the gallant troops dealt decisively Boko Haram criminals hibernating along the axis.

The authorities of the Nigerian Army however called on the general public to disregard the publications by the two media outlets.
