Buratai to Nigerian Media: See yourselves as our partners in the task of ensuring Peace & Security for the nation

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai on Tuesday urged the Nigerian Media to see themselves as partners with the military in the fight against insurgency and other security threats confronting the nation pointing out that it is to the benefit of all Nigerians to ensure peace and stability.

Speaking when he received a delegation of Media Trust Nigeria Ltd, publishers of Daily Trust Newspapers in Abuja, the COAS reminded the media that both the military and the news organizations had a responsibility as enshrined in the constitution (1999 as amended), to jointly work for the unity peace and security of the country.

He said, “We (Army and media) need to understand each other very well. We are all products of the 1999 constitution as amended. We must make sure we don’t do things that will jeopardise the country’s national security.

“The media and the people should support their own Army because the troops are out there round the clock sacrificing for the nation. A lot of them are laying down their lives for the nation.

“We expect that if this institution (Army) is having challenges, everybody should rally round it without exposing its secrets and sacredness of the military because by so doing, you are endangering national security”.

Earlier, Editor in chief of Media Trust, Alhaji Munir Dan Ali commended the Nigerian Army for the patriotic work of safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation and tackling the miriads of security threats facing the nation.

He urged the Army to apart from its hard core duties of tackling security challenges, increase its soft core duties of providing humanitarian support of constructing bridges, intervening in repair of roads and medical outreaches.
