The two weeks Defence Advisers/Attaches annual conference which held at the headquarters of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) on Friday 15th November 2019 came to a close with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin assuring the DAs that the federal government was focussed in improving the capacity and capability of the nation’s military diplomats to perform their duties.
Speaking through the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Nurudeen Balogun, the CDS said, “I am cognizant of the administrative constraints facing the various Defence Sections as discussed during the conference.
” I would like to assure you that the Agency in conjunction with ministry of Defence, Defence Headquarters and the Services headquarters will do all that is within their powers to alleviate the identified challenges in order to ensure that you carry out your jobs with little or no stress”.
“I will thus urge you all to ensure prudent and judicious utilization of resources allocated to you in view of dwindling government resources.
Continuing the CDS said, ” During this conference, a number of resolutions which I believe will enhance our productivity has been articulated and produced.

“These were in areas of evolving collaborations among security agencies towards combating the nation’s contemporary security challenges as well as developing synergy among security agencies.
” Please be reassured that these resolutions will be given the attention they deserve at the appropriate quarters.
On the theme of the conference, which is ‘Enhancing Inter Agency Collaboration in Response to Current and Anticipated Threats in Nigeria’s Security Environment: Role of the Defence Attaches System’, Gen Olonisakin said, “I believe that this past two weeks have been rigorous but very rewarding for both the Defence Advisers and the Defence Intelligence Agency staff.
” Given the theme of the conference, as well as the way the entire conference was conducted, I must say the sessions have been most educative and I believe you all are better placed to contribute more effectively to the performance of your Defence sections.
” I am aware that the participants benefitted from the wealth of experience of a vast array of practitioners in the intelligence field, policy makers as well as serving and retired senior officers including past Chiefs of Defence Intelligence”.
Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Sani Usman in his closing remarks, urged the DAs to key into the experiences garnered during the conference even as he commended the Ministry of Defence, CDS and Service Chiefs for the invaluable support to DIA and its activities.
