The China National Electronic Import and Export Corporation (CNIEC), which is 100 per cent state owned entity, responsible for manufacturing of military electronic equipment for cyber warfare, command and control as well as cotton-edge radar equipment has declared its readiness to partner Nigerian Army in the production of electronic warfare equipment needed to tackle terrorism and other threats confronting the nation.
Mr. Eric Zhang, Director General of CNIEC for Africa, who led a delegation which included Mrs Serah Zhao, Manager for Africa Business, to Army headquarters, noted that aside its readiness to enter into partnership with the Nigerian Army, his corporation is ready to help establish a production line for such communication and electronic equipment for the military.
Recalling the longstanding cordial relationship existing between Nigeria and China, Mr Zhang said the production line will help in further stabilizing the relationship.
He said, “Chinese military industry has a well known cooperation with Nigerian military over the years. CNIEC which is one of five major military equipment producing corporations owned by China is responsible for producing military electronic and communication as well as radar equipment.
” These include the C4 – SI systens, the radar, the command and control systems and cyber warfare systems. CNIEC products represent the most cotton-edge technology in communication for the future and electronic cyber systems.

“As we speak, CNIEC has contract for 300 countries around the world, including African countries for the production of Defence electronics and communication equipment. In the past we had communications with the Nigerian Airfirce and the Army at different levels.
Emphasizing on the military industrial base, Mr Zhang said, ” For the future, the idea is for CNIEC, as we have been doing in other countries provide technical assistance to set up. For a start, we are ready to provide a tactical radio manufacturing assembly line.
“We are willing and open for technological transfer because Nigeria has been our best military partner in Africa.
In his address, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, KT. Gen Kamidi Adeosun noted that Nigeria’s relationship with China did not start today.
Collaborating the relationship, he said, ” As we speak, there are arrangements for sale and purchase of equipment between Nigeria and China in other areas. This is to confirm existing relationship.
He promised to brief the COAS on the interaction on the communication, electronic and radar equipment brought to the knowledge of Army headquarters by the CNIEC delegation
Present at the visit were the Chief of Army Standard and Evaluation, Major General Fidelis Azinta, Chief of Logistics, Major General Uniugbe, Chief of Military Intelligence, Major General Adebayo, Chief of Accounts and Budget, Major General Bakare.
Others were the Chief of Projects Monitoring, Major General MSA Aliyu, Deputy Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Solomon Uduonwa, Provost Mashall, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed, Commander, Nigerian Army Cyber Command, Brigadier General Lassa and the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagur Musa.
