COAS Galvanizes recruits of Nigerian Army on professional competence.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Burutai has charged Recruits of the Nigerian Army to strive harder and aspire to attain the highest standard of professional competence for steady progression in their chosen carrier.

He gave the charge at the Prize Giving and Beating of the Retreat ceremony organised for the 78 Regular Recruit Intake, held at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna state.

The COAS who was represented by Major General Aminu Bichi Maitama (retired), expressed satisfaction with the high level of regimental training received by the recruits, adding that from their combatant display they are fully prepared to meet up the security challenges bedevilling the country.
He said, “You are to note however, that training in the Nigerian Army is a continuous process and will last throughout your career.

“I therefore urge you all to attend requisite courses after passing out in order to attain the highest standard of professional competence for steady career progression.

While congratulating training ‘Company’s’ that competed keenly in various military trainings and won different awards, the COAS said their recognition implies they should further fasten their belt to reassure the Commandant and Nigerian Army that the awards were well deserved.

“This occasion, I am aware is particularly very important in the training cycle of every intake that passes through this great institution.

“This is because it is a period for stocktaking where recruits and training companies that distinguished themselves in the training session as well as staff are rewarded either individually or collectively. In addition, it is time for the recruits to look back and appreciate the progress so far achieved”, he noted.

Lt. General Buratai enjoined them to note that several opportunities aimed at excelling in the course of their career as soldiers abound and tasked them to take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way to enable them excel.

Earlier in his address, the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Major General Sani Mohammed said the occasion is earmarked to officially bring to an end the training cycle of every recruit intake in Depot.

“It also serves as a day during which awards and prizes are given to recruits and training company’s who distinguished themselves both individually and collectively in competitive activities.

“Beating of the Retreat is also used to recognize instructors, Admin staff and even civilian personnel as well as Corpers who were outstanding in the discharge of their duties within the period” he explained.
Major Gen. Mohammed boasted that the 78 Regular Recruit Intake is one of the best trained in Depot in recent time in view of their excellent performance in various Field Training Exercises, Competitive events and other aspects of military trainings.

He however attributed the successes recorded to the commitment, diligence and dedication of all involved in the training of the recruits.

The Commandant noted with satisfaction some of the rigorous trainings the recruits were exposed in which they performed creditably well including Exercise First and Exercise Second Leg, as well as Exercise Kungama among others.

The Passing out Parade for the 78 Regular Recruit Intake has been scheduled to take place on Saturday 19th October, 2019 at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna state.
