DIA Officers Wives Association Inaugurates 20 Classrooms & 100 Pupils Capacity ‘Preparation School’ at Idi Musa Estate: DEPOWA President, Barr. Mrs Irabor Eulogises Mrs Adesuwa Adebayo & CDI for Legacy Education Project.  

The President, Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Barr. Mrs Vickie Anwuli Irabor has described education as one of the most important legacies to be bequeathed to children especially when the socio-economic challenges the country and the family are taken into consideration.

 

Mrs Irabor made the disclosure at the commissioning ceremony of the Defence Intelligence Agency Officers Wives Association Preparation School constructed at the Idi Musa Estate for staff and personnel of DIA, at Kyami District, Airport Road, Abuja on Wednesday.

 

According to the DEPOWA President, the project which is the initiative of the wife of the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Mrs. Adesuwa Itohan Adebayo is one of the noble efforts of DIA-OWA aimed at showing the welfare of families of military officers who are daily in the frontlines performing duties to keep the nation safe, are important.

 

While noting that military officers wives are doing a lot to fully engrain education and other intellectual pursuits among children, youths and family members, Mrs. Irabor said, “This citadel of learning, irrespective of the age and level shows we  are aware that effects of ignorance. We have tasted education ourselves and we know that no child should be left uneducated”.

 

While commending the DIA OWA President, Mrs. Adesuwa Adebayo for initiative and construction of the school which she described as laudable, Mrs. Irabor applauded the giant strides taken in other areas even as she hailed the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo for prioritizing the welfare and wellbeing of families of personnel of the Agency.

 

Chief of Defence Intelligence in his remarks disclosed that the motivation for the construction of the school came about following observations that the DIA estate only boosted of accommodation while there was problem of acute electricity and water challenges.

 

“Aside, the challenges of no electricity and water, the distance to the nearest school for children was far off. We had to acquire additional land for the school so that children children of our personnel and officers will have access to quality education. We ensured that electricity and water challenges were a thing of the past”.

 

“In fact, as we speak, due to our presence, the Kyami environment is opening up faster than when we first came. Cost of land is reducing to attract development”.

Earlier, President of DIA OWA, Mrs Adesuwa Adebayo described the completion and commissioning of the Preparatory School, as a testament to the will and commitment of the Chief of Defence Intelligence to instituting real change and creating life changing opportunities for families of staff and families of DIA.

 

Noting that on her first visit to the DIA estate, she observed the lack of educational and other infrastructure, Mrs Adebayo said she was elated that her husband bought into the construction of the two storied-building with 20 classrooms, which can take over 100 students adding that it is equipped with a Sick bay, Soundbite Generator for 24 hours electricity and separate place sporting activities.

 

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the wife of the Chief of Air Staff, Mrs Elizabeth Olubunmi Amao, pioneer president of DIA OWA, Mrs. Ekaette Okoi and representatives of the wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Mrs. Omozojie, and wife of Chief of Naval Staff, as well as Course 37 queens.
