Ex–Atilogwu Udo: Troops nab Army Impostor & supplier of Military Accessories to robbery/kidnapping gangs; bust Electric Cable thieves.

Troops of 82 division, Nigerian Army conducting Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1, to flush out criminal elements, this yuletide season from the South East, have arrested an impostor who usually poses as an Army personnel while moving Nigerian Army accessories to criminal gangs to perpetrate evil in the society.

General Officer Commanding 81 division, Major General Lasisi Adegboye who made the disclosure at a media briefing, also stated that troops based on credible intelligence, arrested a criminal gang who specialize in digging and stealing electrical cables in the South East.

The gallant troops also refused a bribe of N700, 000 to enable the gang escape.

Addressing the media, the GOC said, “Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1 was flag off on 1st of November 2019 at Nsulu Games Village in Isialangwa LGA Abia State.

The Exercise is aimed at flushing out criminal elements in the South Eastern part of Nigeria.

Since the commencement of the Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1 a lot of threats to security has been curtailed by own troops at various Super Camps based on accurate intelligence reports with the support and collaboration with other security agencies.

This is part of the objective that the Exercise is out to achieve.

On Tuesday 26 November 2019 Troops of Sector 5 Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1 on routine patrol arrested one impostor Mr. Madukwe Obinna a resident of Ugbor Hill in Aba, Abia State at Nsukka in Enugu State, while impersonating to be a serving soldier of the Nigerian Army.

The suspect was in a vehicle conveying garden eggs from Abuja to Abia State.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that he was given a lift by the driver of the vehicle he boarded because he claimed to be a soldier.

Items recovered from Mr. Madukwe includes; Nigerian Army Identity Card, One pair of Desert Camouflage T-shirt, 2 Camouflage T- shirts, One 3/4 Camouflage Short, One Mobile Phone and the sum of Forty Thousand Naira (N40, 000.00).

Others item found in his possession are; a fake One Thousand Naira note, a Japanese Yen, a Toy pistol, Fake Nigeria Police Identity Card, 26 Nigerian Army Vehicle Stickers, 23 Nigeria Army Emblems, One Pair of Desert Boots, 2 Engineer Cap badges, a Name tag bearing Madukwe O. I. and a jackknife.

It was also revealed during investigation that the suspect obtained a National Diploma in Computer Engineering from Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies, Makurdi.

It was further revealed during his confessional statement that he was on his way from Abuja to Aba for the purpose of committing robbery and he produces some of the Military accessories found on him.

Immediately after the media briefing, Mr Madukwe will be handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and prosecution in line with objective of Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1.

In a similar development, troops of sector 5 on patrol Wednesday 27 November 2019 at Opi, near Nsukka were tipped off by locals that 3 criminals suspected to be involved in the act of stealing electric cables in the town.

A pursuit by own troops led to the arrest of one of the criminal by name Ifeanyi Agbaraenyi while the other 2 fled on sighting own troop.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the vandals came from Udi, Onitsha and Enugu.

However, his attempt to bribe the soldiers with the sum of Seven hundred thousand naira (N700, 000.00), was stiffly resisted by the soldiers.

Suspect is currently with Military Police for further interrogation pending the handover to Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps after the completion of the investigation.

The 82 Division Nigerian Army will continue to protect lives and property of the law abiding citizens within its areas of responsibility.
