Retired Assistant Inspector of Police, AiG Chris Ezike has stated that a robust Community Policing emplacement will address the current myriads of security challenges plaguing the country.
Ezike made the assertion on Sunday during the 2019 Adult/General Harvest of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarimpa, Abuja, with the theme, ‘Harvest of Divine Abundance’.
The retired AIG, who served as AIG in Zone 4, Makurdi, with responsibility for North Central states insisted that if the nation wants to design the right way to secure the communities, the people of the communities must have an input because the country is currently under policed.
To achieve a better result, he said ‘the people and their leaders must be part of making the policies to secure them noting, that ‘we just have to do structural adjustment of the police in order to get it right.
“To achieve a better result, the people must be part of making the policies to secure them, that is community policing. We should take policing to smallest units. Traditional rulers have a role to play. We just have to do structural adjustment of the police.
‘‘On the issue of the right number of police personnel that is required to adequately cater for the internal security of the country, the retired Police chief said: ” The United Nations platform said one to every 400 persons. Check what we have now and know whether we have enough. We are grossly under policed and under equipped.’’

He also said that policing is now technology driven and intelligence driven, adding that serious attention must be paid to involving the communities in efforts to generate the intelligence to be able to secure their lives and properties.
Regarding the harvest, AIG Azike said Nigerians must learn to give out to charity and make other people smile since God has blessed us.
‘‘The fact we are alive is enough to thank God. Going by the theme of this year’s harvest, in the midst of famine and locust destruction, there is still abundance. Life is full, in its fullness when you are alive. God has been magnanimous and merciful. We have every reason to thank God”, he said.
Arch. Bishop Friday John Imaekhai, Bendel Ecclesiastical province of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion coroborated AIG Aziken’s posision, saying that Community Policing became an option because ‘the one operating in Nigeria with one police at the federal level is unable to protect lives and property.’
Wondering how Nigeria descended so low in the comity of nations, the Arch Bishop insisted that government knows what to do in order to eradicate insecurity because ‘the primary purpose of government is to secure lives and property.
He maintained that ‘once a government fails to do that, then it cannot be termed a government that is worth its salt.
‘‘One wonders why a country of our magnitude, respected as one of the black power in the comity of nations will be undergoing this sort of insecurity challenges.
‘‘Government know what to do in order to eradicate insecurity because the primary purpose of government is to secure lives and property. Once a government fails to do that, then it cannot be termed a government that is worth its salt.
