Misconduct: Immigration Service Dismisses 4 Officers, Demotes 14 Other Personnel

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed four personnel and demoted 14 others for various offences bothering on misconduct.

DCI Tony Akuneme, Public Relatiins Officer of the NIS, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the personnel were sanctioned after they appeared before the Orderly Room Trial Committee of the Service.

DCI Akuneme said the move was part of efforts to rid the Service of bad eggs and in furtherance of the Federal Government’s fight against corruption.

He said two other personnel were redeployed to other locations while 11 were issued warning letters and one was compulsorily retired.

The statement added that 11 personnel were still awaiting trial noting however, that four other personnel were discharged and acquitted.

“The CGI is assuring the general public that there are no sacred cows in the NIS as all offenders shall be appropriately sanctioned,” the spokesman said.

While urging members of the public to be vigilant and support the Service to deliver more on its mandate, he advised them to contact the NIS “for feedback, inquiries and complaints on any of these channels.
