MPBOWA Brings Smiles to Patients, Delivery/Nursing Mothers of Defence Headquarters Medical Centre, Renovates Family, Maternity Wards; Donates Modern Baby Incubator, other Equipment’s to Hospital

Patients and Newly delivered mothers at the Family and Maternity Wards of the Defence Headquarters Medical Centre in Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja who are mostly family members of military personnel fighting in different Theatres of Operation were full of prayers and gratitude to the Coordinator of the Military Pensions Board Officers Wives’ Association (MPBOWA), Mrs. Temitayo Lawal following the freewill renovation of Wards, and donation of medical equipment’s to the Medical Center on Monday, with Mrs. Lawal stating that, “As mothers, wives, and sisters we have taken up the responsibility of assisting their loved ones left behind in whatever way we can”.

The MPBOWA Coordinator made this known when she led members to donate items to the hospital including three (3) Ceiling Fans and 9 Wall Fans in the Family Ward, all of which have been installed, 5 Orbit Fans in the Maternity/Labour Room, also been installed and Delivery Couches in the Maternity Ward.

Also donated by MPBOWA were a new/modern Baby Incubator, 12 Hospital Bed Side Lockers, 12 Mosquito Nets, 25 Bedsheets as well as Educational Materials for Children on Admission.

Speaking further, at the handing and taking over ceremony of medical equipment’s, Mrs. Temitayo Lawal said, “The MPBOWA is an affiliate of the Defence and Police Officers Wives’ Association (DEPOWA), which was established with a mandate to serve and support humanity especially the widows and children of deceased military personnel.

“This mandate is held sacrosanct and it is the focus of the MPBOWA especially as it concerns efforts at mitigating hardships encountered by members of the Armed Forces and their families.

“Our efforts at executing the DEPOWA mandate therefore focuses on training of widows/children of deceased military personnel on vocational skills which is aimed at making them self-reliant and gainfully employed.

“Also, in an effort to contribute to the sound health of all personnel, widows/children of deceased military personnel and staff serving at the MPB, the MPBOWA donates items such as Mosquito Nets, Bedsheets and other medical items to the Board’s Medical Reception Station (MRS) for use of its patients.

“In other words, as mothers, wives, and sisters we have taken up the responsibility of supporting the efforts of our men who fought tirelessly in the frontlines by assisting their loved ones left behind in whatever way we can.

While appreciating the untiring efforts of the personnel of the Medical Centre “who have discharged their services satisfactorily to the families and personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria admitted as patients”, she said, “Be assured that your efforts in this regard are recognized and will boost the morale of our men who are in the frontlines in order to bring peace to our dear nation.

She added, “With these donations from the MPBOWA, we are also indirectly contributing to government’s efforts at boosting the morale of our troops who are giving all they have for the love of our dear country. I wish to also thank the Commander Defence Headquarters Medical Centre for giving us this opportunity to contribute our own little quota to the upgrade of the DHQ Medical Centre and I hope the donations will be judiciously used for the benefits of the patients.

“The Association under my leadership will continue to partner with you towards efficient delivery of your services. We also hope to do more donations in future for betterment of the families of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria”.

Earlier, Commander of the DHQ Medical Centre, Surgeon Captain Abubakar Aliyu disclosed that the hospital which is a 30 bed medical facility caters for military personnel of the armed forces and their families while civilians from the host community even as far as Mararaba and Nasarawa state come to the hospital for medical attention.

Consequently, he noted that facilities at the Medical Centre are stretched adding that with the increasing in patients requiring treatments, the hospital has had to expand its laboratory services and other areas.

His words, “The 30 beds are not enough for us to cater for the increasing patients and demands required of us. We would be grateful for other supports in this regard. That is why this kind gesture from you (Coordinator) is highly appreciated”.

The Commander specifically commended the MPBOWA Coordinator for the donation of the Baby Incubator explaining that the hospital had always referred cases of babies born prematurely to the National hospital or the Garki hospital at huge costs.

“But with this modern Baby Incubator, we can now handle cases of premature babies and its associated risks here at the DHQ Medical Centre
