Navy decorates 16 newly promoted Rear Admirals in Abuja.

The Nigerian Navy on Friday decorated 16 of its newly promoted Rear Admirals with the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) urging the officers to bring their vast training and experiences to bear in tackling Maritime terrorism and other security threats of kidnapping, herdsmen attacks and militancy.

While noting that the promotion of the senior officers comes with greater expectations and responsibilities, the minister said, “Your elevation is a call for you to redouble your commitment to the service of securing the nation and its maritime domain.

Among the officers decorated are Rear Admiral Oliseh Menogor, Rear Admiral Elkanah Jaiyeola, Rear Admiral BB Mole, Rear Admiral Ayankpa, Rear Admiral Moses, Rear Admiral Vincent Okeke, Rear Admiral Yakubu Bala Wambai, and Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ola Kpeki.

Others are Rear Admiral Perry Chukwuka Onwuzulike, Rear Admiral Nuhu Bala, Rear Admiral Chukwuemeka Okafor, Rear Admiral Tanko Yakubu Pani, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Morakinyo and Rear Admiral Onureri.

In his address at the occasion, Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas said, ” The significance of the decoration ceremony is drawn from the critical need for quality leadership at the peak of every organization for the optimal realization of its objectives.

“No where is such courageous and astute leadership required like in the armed forces where decisions on the employment of men and materials have profound impact on national security.

” While the gates are open to so many on entry into service, only the most dedicated and loyal rise to the very pinnacle of the profession.

Continuing he said, “As we rejoice and felicitate with the newly promoted officers, I must admit that the 16 Flag Officers being decorated have distinguished themselves over time to earn the confidence and endorsement of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Commending the federal government for its support to the Navy, Vice Admiral Ibas said, ” This gesture has enabled the service to make considerable gains in critical areas such as fleet renewal and infrastructural development with the attendant positive impact on operational service delivery.

“While I will continue to canvass for sustained resource allocation for the NN, I wish to pledge the unalloyed commitment of the officers and ratings of the NN to a safe, secure and stable maritime environment for the prosperity of the natio.

Present at the decoration, was the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and some members of the national assembly.
