“They have sacrificed their lives, they have also accepted to continue to sacrifice their lives for the benefit and the stability of our country.
“You know that the armed forces being a disciplined institution is extremely hierarchycal and one of the most important motivating factors to the officers is promotion.
“And promotion is something that comes once in every 3-5 years depending on the rank.
“For the officers that are being promoted today from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel and from colonel to brigadier general, it is a happy day for them but most importantly it is something of pride to our dear country Nigeria.
“Therefore, all that Nigerians can say is thank you to the armed forces, and as Permanent Secretary I want to assure the armed forces that the government of Nigeria under the leadership of president Muhammadu Buhari has continued to give all the support required for the armed forces to perform optimally.
“In terms of their welfare the government is taking it very seriously to provide whatever the armed forces personnel require.
“Therefore I want to use this opportunity to congratulate the officers and remind them that to whom much is given, much is expected.
“Now that they have acquired the ranks of Generals, we expect them to be more dedicated and more resolute to fighting terrorism in Nigeria and bringing peace back to our country.”
