Nigerian Army 6 div commissions block of 14 apartments for personnel, performs ground breaking for recreation centre.

The 6 division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt on Wednesday 2nd October 2019 inaugurated a block of 14 flats and performed a ground breaking ceremony for a recreation center built for personnel of the division.

Speaking at the occasion, Major General Jamil Sarham, GOC 6 division expressed joy that the commissioning of the accommodation block, lawn tennis court and the ground breaking of a recreation centre here in Port Harcourt Barracks were undertaken under his tenure in the division.

He said, “These laudable projects were conceived, funded and executed by a philanthropist per excellence Chief (Sir) Ikenna Okafor (KSS) Ide Akwaeze

“As you are aware, this Division is barely in its 3rd year of existence, but you will all agree with me that it has achieved a lot especially in the areas of anti illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and kidnapping amongst other sundry crimes.

“This would not have been possible without the able guidance and directives of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai.

“In the aspect of structural development, I would borrow from the saying that ‘’ Rome was not built in a day’’.

“As such, we will continue to do our best within the resources available at our disposal to ensure relevant structures are put in place within the barracks in order of scale of preference.

“Permit me to also state categorically that, Monipulo Nigeria Limited has impacted immensely in the wellbeing of most families in this barracks through charity supports and support to some of the NAOWA programmes.

“Today we are privileged to have Chief Mrs Seinye OB Lulu Briggs, the Executive Vice Chairman, Monipulo Limited, who is the SGoH of this Ceremony in our midst.

In her address, Special Guest of Honour, Dr Mrs OB Lulu Brigs expressed delight to the GOC inviting her to be part of the commissioning and ground-breaking ceremonies of the three important infrastructure projects at 6 Division Barracks, Port Harcourt. Block 70B – which comprises fourteen (14) apartments for soldiers and a lawn tennis court have been commissioned and we have also broken ground for a recreation center.

She said, “I want to specially thank Chief (Sir) Ikenna Okafor (KSS) Ide Akwaeze. a distinguished philanthropist, for executing these projects. I have been made to understand that this gesture is not the first of its kind that he has undertaken.

“I must say that it is extremely encouraging to witness a steadily growing number of Nigerian philanthropists and foundations contributing to nation building by working with other development stakeholders including public sector security agencies such as the military.

“I want to encourage all of us to share the good news about this partnership and to also emulate Chief (Sir) Ikenna Okafor.

“All we need to do is to look around and see the plight of mankind and we will certainly identify the many possible areas of intervention calling for our attention.

“On our own part, the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, which I Chair, has been working to improve the wellbeing and livelihoods of communities across the Niger Delta since 2001.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, before I sit down, I want to take this opportunity to commend the GOC and the soldiers of 6 Division Nigerian Army for their diligence in fighting all forms of criminality across the Niger Delta region, especially oil theft, kidnapping and other sundry crimes.

“It is heartening to note that since the creation of 6 Division in 2016, it has made appreciable progress and its successes can be credited for the relative peace we now enjoy.

“One of my companies, Moni Pulo Limited, an oil and gas exploration and production company, can attest to the professionalism and dedication of 6 Division in protecting our facilities and ensuring that we can go about our prospecting efforts confidently.

“Sir, peace and security are prerequisites for the development of this great region, so we thank you and at the same time encourage you and your men to continue to do more.

“I want to assure you that we will support the Division in any way we can, especially as it concerns the security of the Niger Delta and the entire citizenry.”
