NNS Beecroft Hand’s Over 2 Rescued Ghanians to Ghana Consulate in Lagos

The Nigerian Navy on Monday handed over two rescued Ghanian fishermen saved from drowning by officers on board NNS Prosperity, to the Ghana Consulate in Lagos.
A statement by Commander Edward Yeibo, Command Information Officer, Western Naval Command said, “On 2 August 2022, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Prosperity, while patrolling 10 nautical miles North East of Dangote Quays Ibeju Lekki Lagos rescued 2 Ghanaian fishermen floating in the water.
“Further investigation revealed that the men were 4 in number but sadly, 2 of them had drowned before the arrival of NNS Prosperity to the scene.
“The rescued men; Mr Francis Cudjoe and Mr John Qualcoo were thereafter recovered to NNS Beecroft, Naval Base Apapa where they received medical care and attention.
“Today, 8 August 2022, NNS Beecroft handed over the 2 rescued Ghanaian fishermen to the representatives of the Ghana Consulate in Lagos.
While commiserating with the Ghanaian Community on the loss of the other 2 fishermen, the Commander Naval Base Beecroft, Commodore Malami Haruna used the opportunity to reiterate the need for seafarers to always emplace all safety measures including the use of life jackets within the maritime domain.
He further stressed the commitment of the Nigerian Navy towards ensuring the safety and security of all seafarers within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
