Troops of 29 Task Force Brigade, Benishek, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested 13 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists’ suspects for logistic supplies in Borno State.
The logistic supplies included fuel, food items, SIM cards, clothes and other basic needs of the terrorists in the Sambisa Forest axis of Kaga Local Council.
A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, on Tuesday in Maiduguri noting that the suspects were arrested during the market day surveillance in Benishek town.
“The arrested suspects were intercepted, while conveying large quantities of logistic supplies for the ISWAP terrorists in the forest”.
Military sources in Maiduguri, also stated that Benishek and Jakana had remained the largest hub for the supply of logistics to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists for over a decade.
“On each market day, the insurgents’ merchants usually go the market to buy various food items and fuel”, he said, adding that the items include SIM cards and clothes for the terrorists.
According to Makama, the bad elements had been working for terrorists by supplying them with critical supplies to sustain terrorism in Borno and Yobe states.
Meanwhile, four soldiers were wounded by explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Wajiroko-Sabon in Damboa Local Council of Borno state.
The explosion occurred on January 30, 2023, while the troops were on a fighting patrol along the Damboa-Biu Road.
“It was not clear where the soldiers were heading; when they stepped on an IED,” he said.
According to him, the wounded were evacuated and transferred to the Maimalari hospital for medical treatment.
