In a deliberate effort to enhance service delivery, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday 12 December 2019 commissioned 3 newly constructed Blocks of residential apartments for Soldiers, Ratings and Airmen/Airwomen at the Mogadishu Military Cantonment, Abuja.
The block of apartments consisting 54 flats furnished to taste was constructed to provide conducive living quarters for personnel of the Defence Headquarters and their families thereby mitigating the challenge posed by a dearth of accommodation in the Cantonment.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of Defence (CDS), General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Logistics, Major General Adekunle Shodunke recalled that under the current DHQ leadership, similar residential quarters of 156 flats were earlier in the year built to accommodate Soldiers, Ratings, Airmen/Airwomen at the Mambilla Barracks, Abuja.
He said another Block of 114 Flats were also constructed for Commissioned Officers at the Mogadishu Cantonment.
The CDS stated further, that the DHQ places high premium on the welfare of personnel, reiterating continuous commitment to execution of welfare projects to boost the morale of personnel and enhance their productivity.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of Engineering Services, DHQ, Major General John Enenche extoled the CDS for prioritizing the welfare needs of DHQ personnel.
He urged occupants of the new apartments to ensure adequate maintenance of the facilities provided.
A statement by Brig Gen Onyema Nwacbukwu, Acting Director Defence Information said, “High point of the occasion was the presentation of keys to the beneficiaries by the CDS’ representative.”
