The Force Commander, United Nation’s Interim Security Force for Abyei, Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr has recieved an all women Indian Contingent to carry out peacekeeping duties in Abyei.
They arrived at the Regional Service Centre Entebbe Uganda on Friday, 13 January 2023.
The all-women engagement platoon comprising of two officers and 25 soldiers have arrived UNISFA.Thi is India’s largest single unit women deployment in UN mission.
The platoon specializes in security and community outreach activities.
In his address, General Sawyerr stated that their induction into the Mission is a Force Multiplier in UN Peacekeeping Operations.
He also urged them to contribute positively to UN Peacekeeping, especially in the area of Women Peace and Security.
