Introduction of Next of Kin Indemnity Form For Military Pensioners.

The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has observed with dismay fraudulent practice among some Next of Kins (NOKs) of deceased military pensioners.

Such fraudulent practice includes outright refusal to inform the Board on the demise of a Pensioner and accessing the deceased pensioner account by using ATM cards.

This act has continued to drain pension funds which most of the time are not recoverable from these dishonest NOKs.

The Board therefore considered it expedient to strengthen its internal control mechanism to curb the menace.

Accordingly, MPB has introduced NOK indemnity form to be filled by all NOKs.

The main objective of this form is to hold NOKs responsible for lateness or concealment of information on the demise of pensioners.

Additionally, the introduction of the form will assist pensioners that are critically ill or indisposed to attend verification exercises to have their information updated annually to prevent suspension of their pensions.

Furthermore, this new procedure is intended to indemnify the Board  against loss of pension funds and also  ameliorate difficulties  usually encountered by pensioners including those in the Diaspora that were unable to attend the 2017 Military  Pensioners Verification Exercise amongst others.

There are two indemnity forms, one for recorded NOKS in pensions record at MPB and the other form is in lieu of NOKs for those whose recorded NOKs might not be available to fill the form to assign someone to temporarily complete same on their behalf.

Consequently, Military Pensioners are advice to pick the forms from MPB Headquarters or print the forms from the Board website (www.mpb.ng) and completed forms should be submitted to Headquarters Military Pensions Board, Dutse Alhaji Kubwa Abuja.

Pensioners that missed the 2017 Verification Exercises are particularly  expected to complete the  forms on or before 30 April 2018 before rolling over to the new database.
