The Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps headquarters, built in a record six months, encompassing a state of the art structure and latest technological equipment for intelligence operations was on Wednesday December 12, 2018, commissioned by the Chief of Army staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.
Speaking at the occasion, Lt. General Buratai expressed joy about the completion of the new headsquarters saying that the importance of intelligence in Army operations and its successes cannot be over-emphasized.
He to the gathering of senior officers from the Defence, Army and other sister services that appropriate intelligence ensures seamless operations in battle theaters and other security operations adding, “If you don’t use intelligence, you are bound to fail in operations”.
“For seamless pursuit of operational goals, you (Operational Commanders must work with Intelligence Commanders always”.
The COAS said NAIC is being properly repositioned and that more was coming their way to ensure they perform optimally adding, “They are a great asset to national development and sound administration in the country”.
In his address, the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), Major General Samuel A Adebayo described the commissioning as a remarkable milestone for NAIC given the fact that the corps had not had a dedicated structure as headquarters since the relocation of Army headquarters to from Lagos to Abuja 12 years ago.
His words, “This magnificient edifice was remodeled and renovated in record time with the magnanimous support of the COAS who approved the idea ab-initio. The COAS also ensured that no resources was spared to ensure it meets international standard”.
“The new headquarters is exquisitely and fully furnished with requisite technological gadgets, standby generator as well as a solar energy back up system to ensure uninterrupted power supply”.
The DMI recalled that in the past years, NAIC has operated with some of its key support elements domiciled in Lagos due to lack of office space saying, “This has in no mean ways affected the smooth functioning of the headquarters even though efforts are continuously made to leverage on modern technologies to breach some of the gaps”.
“The building will now afford the NAIC the long elusive opportunity to bring together key support formations, some of which will be relocated from Lagos to nabuja to enhance and reinforce the intelligence production activities by NAIC”.
“I am also proud to disclose that the COAS has also approved the relocation of NAILs from Tego barracks in Lagos to a more expansive and befitting location in Bida, Niger State.
