140 Criminals – Kidnappers, Cultists, Murder Suspects Arrested by Akwa Ibom Police as New Crime Strategies Yeild Success.

Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, CP Zunairu Muazu announced on Wednesday that following a clampdown on criminal elements in different parts of the state, his officers have arrested 140 suspects.

The suspects he stated included kidnappers, armed robbers, murder suspects, vandals and burglars among others.

Briefing the media on Uyo, CP Muazu said, “You will recall that upon assumption of duty as the 22nd Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State on 11/07/2017, I clearly stated that I will champion a new course of policing in the State, in line with the force directives, under the leadership of IGP Ibrahim Idris, policing that focused on the people and service-oriented.

“This is in line with global best practices that place emphasis on human rights driven policing, intelligence led policing, and community based policing and problem solving approach.

“The security architecture of the state was clearly studied and repositioned for effective service delivery.

“We have commenced a full implementation of community based policing in the state. This is geared towards increasing public confidence on the Police and working in partnership with members of the public in a more friendly and accountable manner. Strategies put in place in ensuring that crime rate in Akwa Ibom State is brought to the barest minimum are yielding fruitful results. Below are some of our modest achievements within the last one month.

“A total of 140 suspects were arrested for various offences, ranging from armed robbery to cultism and other crimes most of whom have been charged to court while others are under investigation.

“One AK 47 rifle with three magazines and eighteen rounds of live   ammunition was recovered.

 “9 Locally made pistols and7single barrel guns with 7 live cartridges were recovered.

“One Toyota Camry Car and one Toyota corolla were recovered.

“Cash of two Million Eight Hundred and Nineteen Thousand Naira only, was equally recovered.

“Assorted items suspected to be used by cultists were equally recovered.

“Let me use this opportunity to thank the Government and people of Akwa Ibom state for their support to the Nigeria Police and indeed other security agencies towards reducing crime to barest minimum.

“Together we can continue to make Akwa Ibom safe and secure.”
