The 176 Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army on Saturday 15th December 2018 held its West Africa Social Activities WASA, at the OA Azazi Barracks, Gwagwalada with Major General Christopher Gwabia Musa, Managing Director, Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches, saluting the existing interface between the Guards Brigade and other security agencies towards ensuring security of Mr. President and indeed, the entire FCT.
Major General Musa who was the Guest of Honour at the occasion also gave kudos to Guards Brigade for conduct of several military operations and ensuring that the Nigerian Army training directives are strictly adhered to.
“It is my sincere belief also that in the course of the year, 176 battalion being one of the battalions of Guards Brigade has carried out its tasks diligently to achieve the mandate of the Brigade. In all these, you showed no tiredness but rather exhibited discipline, loyalty and dedication to duty” he said adding, “Your hardwork and service to the nation is highly appreciated”.
He continued, “The Nigerian nation is today facing several security challenges which we are all aware of. As members of the armed forces of Nigeria, I believe you are very much alive to your responsibilities as evident in the way you have conducted your affairs so far.
“I want to urge you not to relent on your oars no matter the odds and the challenges that may come along as you discharge your responsibilities to our great nation Nigeria. The entire nation counts on your professionalism and perseverance to take the country out of its current state and I believe you will not fail”.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commanding Officer, 176 Battalion, Lt. Col Rabiu Toro said WASA which comes up once at the end of every year, is a way of socializing in a relaxed atmosphere with personnel of the army interacting with civilians and families.
It is also an occasion for celebrating and rewarding the hardwork of personnel as observed during the course of the year.
About 40 soldiers in various departments were later awarded with the Commanding Officer’s award for dedication to duty and discipline.
Several cultural troupes made up of Igbo, Fulani, Gbagi, Calabar and Yoruba groups entertained at the ceremony.
The Chief of Staff at Guards Brigade headquarters, Col Kazeem Umar Sidi, who represented the Commander, Guards Brigade at the occasion, presented the awardees with their prizes.
Highlight of the WASA was the lighting of the Camp Fire to mark the end of the activities by Major General CG Musa.
