3 armed Robbers Killed in Shootout with Police in Delta State; as Special Squads Carry out Show of Force to Thwart Possible Biafra Agitators Threat

The Police in Delta State have killed three armed robbery suspects is separate shootouts in Warri and Aladja after the robbers attacked victims but met their Waterloo when police swiftly responded to distress calls.  

In another development, Special Police Squads of the Delta State Police Command, have carried out a show of force parade in all major towns of the state to show readiness to deal with any possible threat by the Independent Peoples of Biafra and MASSOB to close down commercial activities on 30th of May, 2017.

Statements from the office of Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Zanna giving details, said, “On Saturday, May 27, 2017, one Igho Egboro of No. I5 Victory Street by Aka-Avenue Road reported that at about 5am in the early hours, in his house, he came out to urinate.

He saw two persons, armed and one of them jumped into his compound through the fence, that the hoodlums ran after him and were dragging the door with him.

He said he shouted for help, that armed robbers were attacking him. The robbers started shooting and this attracted and this attracted the attention of PMF 50 Kubwa personnel of Special Duty in the area who swung into action.

In the process of exchange of fire, one of the hoodlums was gunned down by Sergeant Agbu Ezekiel while others took to their heels.

Items recovered after the shootout included two live cartridges while the corpse of the dead robber has been deposited at Warri Central Hospital Mortuary for autopsy report.

At Aladja, on same 27th May 2017, at about 7.59 pm, in Obubu Town, Vigilante men led by one Umukoro Sunday of Ubogo town with three others, upon receipt of information that a 3-man armed robbery gang were operating at DSC Township, laid in wait at Obubu.

 They equally passed the information to the police who responded quickly. When the robbers were escaping through Obubu axis, the Police and the Vigilante engaged them in a shootout. They were overpowered and two of them gunned down. One of them confessed his name as Ovie Debala from Aladja.

A cut to size double barrel gun with expended cartridge and two live cartridges were recovered as well as a motorbike with reg. DT 3497 QJ used during the operation.

Also recovered was a lady’s handbag containing personal items and 3 handsets.

Regarding the show of force and crime prevention, on 27th May 2017, at about 10am, based of directives from the office of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, for joint show of force with sister security agencies, Delta state Police with its 3 area commands in Asaba, Ughelli and Warri and other cosmopolitan towns embarked on an intensive joint show of force with all tactical commands units in the in state.

 “They are the Police Mobile Force, the Counter Terrorism Unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, the Quick Response Squad, the Eagle Net and Dragon, Safer Highway; DOPS and the Military, Navy, Airforce and DSS.

They patrolled the nooks and crannies of Asaba/Warri/Ughelli/Sapele/Aladja Metropolis and environs and concluded the show of force at about 1.30pm. The show of force is to continue of Monday, May 29, 2017 which is democracy Day.

The Commissioner of Police assured members of the public of the police preparedness to fight crime.

Reports had it that areas patrolled in the course of the exercise were very calm as no incident was recorded.
