The Police in Delta State on Monday foiled an attempt by gang members of three kidnapping/armed robbery suspects who were being taken to court to face prosecution for their criminal acts.
While on their way to Umunede Magistrate Court, the gang members who had taken position between Issele Asagba/Utulu along the Asaba-Benin expressway jumped out of their hiding and opened fire on the police team taking the kidnappers/armed robbery suspects to the court leading to a shootout.
According to a statement from the office of Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zanna entitled ‘Death of Suspected Kidnappers’, the Police said, “On Monday 22nd May 2017, at about 08-30am, a team of Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Police operatives (SAKCCS) on court duty assignment to Umunede Magisterial court”.
“Led by ASP Amos Samuel alongside three male suspects kidnappers. They are Abubakar Mohammed aka Buba, Suleiman Ibrahim aka Carlos, and Auta Mohammed, ran into an ambush of armed robbers between Issele-Asagba/Utulu along Asaba/Benin expressway.

“A gun duel ensued between the gang and the teams which resulted to sustenance of gunshot injury on the left hand of a member of the team, Corporal Cletus Idodo, with the three suspects sustaining various degrees of gunshot injuries”.
“Suspects were rushed to federal Medical Center, Asaba for treatment where they were later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty”.
“Corpses have been deposited at the FMC Asaba Morgue”.
Meanwhile the Police in Delta State also on Monday dispersed a group of IPOB/MASSOB members who were embarking on an illegal procession along the Asaba-Onitcha expressway.
According to a statement, “At about 10am on Monday 22nd, May 2017, information was received that there was a procession of members of the outlawed POB/MASSOB group along Asaba-Onitcha expressway at Abraka Market.
“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command led a team of policemen to the scene and met the protesters who were turning violent and obstructing traffic flow along the Asaba-Onitcha expressy.
“In the process of dispersing the unlawful gathering, five of them were arrested. They are Perry Akujiwa, Anyanwu Lawrence, Osita Obianeri, Precious Oti and Anyadike Confidence.
“In possession of the protesters were banners bearing inscription MASSOB Biafra Flags and berets which were recovered. The suspects and items have been handed over to the State’s CIID for discreet investigation.
