Following a directive by Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, the FCT Police Command  has  a commenced comprehensive investigation into the public assault of a woman who was beaten almost to pulp by Senator Elisha Abbo.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Bala Ciroma has contacted both Senator Abbo and the female (victim), as well as the police orderly to report at the Command headquarters for investigation.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba who made the disclosure while addressing a group of protesters at Force headquarters, assured that justice will not only be done in the matter but will be seen to have been done.
He noted that the Nigerian Police under the leadership of IGP Mohammed Adamu will not sit by, and watch or condone the molestation of the rights of any Nigerian Citizen.

Mba daid, “The Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on a female Nigerian by Senator Abbo Elisha.

“Specifically, the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Bala Ciroma to provide a personal and round-the-clock supervision of every facet of the investigation, including the Forensic analysis of the video currently in circulation as well as the actions/inactions of the Policeman seen in the video footage.

“The IGP, while assuring citizens of utmost professionalism by the Police in the handling of the matter, promised that the Force will ensure that justice is manifestly done in this case irrespective of whose ox is gored.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Bala Ciroma has already established contact with the victim of the assault and has commenced investigation in earnest into the case.

“The IGP thanked Nigerians for their massive show of empathy and concern for the rights of their fellow citizen and urged continuous citizens’ engagement in the tackling of the wider challenges of security in our country”.

A Group, Concerned Nigerians Movement led by Deji Adeyanju, Adebayo Raphael, Ariyo Dare Atoye, Bukky Shonibare and Moses Paul had stormed the Force headquarters with a ‘Petition of Assault Against Senator Elisha Abbo of the PDP on a Woman at a Sex Toy Shop in Abuja’ seeking arrest of both the Senator and his Police orderly.

The Petition addressed to (IGP Adamu reads, “We would like to draw your attention to the physical assault of a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja, by a newly elected senator of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Elisha Abbo, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District.
“According to a report by renowned news medium, Premium Times, Senator Elisha Abbo was at a sex toy shop in Abuja on 11 May 2019 at about 6pm, to purchase some sex toys with three young women, one of whom was said to have vomited multiple times, due to excessive consumption of alcohol.
“But this, according to Premium Times, displeased the Shop Owner; an unnamed female, who complained bitterly about the defacement of her shop as a result of the vomit”.
“A CCTV footage that was embedded in the report published by Premium Times on Tuesday July 2, 2019 shows how senator Elisha Abbo, apparently enraged by the shop owner’s complaint and displeasure over the vomit of his female companion, decided to exert his angst on an unarmed female friend of the shop owner who was also captured by the CCTV footage.
“Senator Abbo was captured pummeling the woman as though he were a gung-ho soldier fighting to the death in a brutal war.
“The victim of the assault who is said to be nursing a child was admitted at a hospital in Abuja and treated for eye inflammation and other injuries sustained during the assault by Senator Abbo. She had to single-handedly bear the cost of her hospital bills as Senator Abbo, without even as ounce of remorse, apology, or responsibility was relentless in doling out threats to both the victim of his assault and the shop owner”.
Equally disturbing is the part where a Nigerian Police officer was later seen in the CCTV footage dragging the assaulted woman away, leaving Senator Abbo to continue his assault spree without questioning or restraining him from his unnecessary aggression against the young woman, thereby making a total mockery of the professionalism and public belief in the unbiased nature of the Nigerian Police Force.
“We believe that Senator Abbo’s misconduct is a flagrant aberration of our laws, particularly Section 263 and 240 of the Nigerian Penal Code Act which condemns the assault by Senator Elisha Abbo as a misdemeanor that is punishable with two-years imprisonment; and Section 2 subsection (1) of the Violence against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015 which equally condemns the act of Senator Elisha Abbo with serious punishments attached”.
Consequently, we would like to demand that:
1.    You commence an immediate investigation into this matter and ensure that Senator Elisha Abbo is prosecuted according to law.
2.    Senator Elisha Abbo publicly issue an unresolved apology to the woman he assaulted and also take responsibility for her medical expenses.
3.    The Police officer in the CCTV video footage is sanction for his seeming complicity during the assault on the woman.
“This will not only reassure the public of your impartiality and regard for justice, but will also deter other members of the public from behaving like Senator Elisha Abbo in future”
