Akwa Ibom Police in Massive Clampdown on Criminality, Arrests 278 Suspects; Recover 19 Locally made Guns; AK 47, Pump Action.

Towards fighting crime and criminality in Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi on Tuesday disclosed that Police operatives in the last two months have arrested 278 suspected criminals after a massive clampdown.

Addressing the media on successes recorded against men of the underworld, Ogunjemilusi said, “Most of the criminals arrested were nabbed for crimes including murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism among others.

While noting that the Akwa Ibom Police Command has successfully prosecuted 193 cases, and secured 23 convictions, CP Ogunjemilusi disclosed that 19 Locally made Pistols, 1 pump action gun and 1 AK-47 rifle were recovered from various gangs.

He said, “A total of two hundred and seventy-six (276) suspects were arrested for various offences, ranging from Murder, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, cultism and other crimes most of whom have been charged to court while others are under investigation. We have prosecuted 193 cases and secured 23 convictions.

19 Locally made Pistols, 1 pump action gun and 1 AK-47 rifle were recovered.

One Toyota Camry Saloon car with Reg. CAL 584 NF and one Toyota Corolla vehicle with Reg. No. AA 50 NRJ were recovered

A total of fifty (52) ammunition were recovered.

An 83-year-old woman, Mrs. Comfort Joshua was rescued from kidnappers den in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, on Thursday, 19th July, 2018 and two of her Abductors gunned down during exchange of fire with the Police.

Three criminals responsible for the vandalization and stealing of transformer armored cables, Solar panels and street lights were arrested and their loots recovered from Ikot Abasi and Abak Local Government Areas respectively.

Rescue of a 2 year, four months old child, Miss Testimony Christopher Bassey ‘f’ from her abductors in Abia State where six suspects were arrested in connection with her abduction.

A 4-year-old child, one Bright J. Monday ‘f’ was rescued from her Abductors along Aka road by IBB roundabout, Uyo, and four suspects have been arrested.

He emphasized that the Command is determined to sustain the tempo in crime fighting and protection of lives and property even as he lauded the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State for their support to the Nigeria Police and indeed other security agencies towards reducing crime to barest minimum.

“Together we can continue to make Akwa Ibom safe and secure”.

Describing Akwa Ibom State as one of the safest States in the country and a destination of choice for Investors and Tourist alike, Ogunjemilusi said, “This is so because I have championed a new course of policing in the State in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, and in line with global best practices.

“We have increased visibility policing across the state, thereby making our response time to distress calls to be very swift.

“Our community Policing approach has endeared us to the populace and created more confidence in the minds of the people.

“Our mode of operations in ensuring that Akwa Ibom State has the lowest crime rate in the country is yielding results,” he added.
