The Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command, has decorated 44 assistant superintendents of police recently promoted to the rank of deputy superintendents of police.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Donald Awunah who decorated the officers, said on Friday that promotion was aimed at motivating officers.
According to him, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, since assumption of office has elevated over 5,000 police officers.
He said, “Promotion is a component of the Nigeria Police Force reward system. Since the IGP’s assumption of the office, he has promoted about 5,000 ASPs.
“This is a remarkable achievement. Motivation is one of the cardinal objectives of reward systems, which in this case is promotion. The IGP has said that promotion is a continuous process. So, you must work hard to earn it.”
Awunah emphasized that any promoted officers who flouted the law would be punished.
He stated that promotion could not be all merry as there were gains and pains.
He asked the promoted officers to see their elevation as a call to greater performance.
One of the promoted officers, who spoke on behalf of others, Gloria James, thanked the NPF for recognizing their hard work.
James said the officers would do their best in the service of the NPF to protect lives and property.
