There was drama on Tuesday when Nigeria’s Senate resume plenary as the caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC recommended the sack of Senator Ali Ndume as Senate Leader.
The APC caucus also named Senator Ahmed Lawan as the new Senate Leader.
The development was made known in the letter addressed to the Senate by the APC Caucus.
Ex-Senate Leader, Ndume said he was shocked by the development noting “I don’t know whether I have been removed as the Senate Leader. This announcement came to me as a surprise.”
Political observers said they were not surprised at the development as the sacked leader had in the past publicly spoken contrary to the position taken by the Senate which rejected the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of EFCC.
Recall that the Senate Spokesman said Magu was rejected while Ndume said that was not the case and his view reportedly ruffled other Senators feathers.
Meanwhile, the emergence of Lawan as Senate Leader is seen as an attempt by Senate President Bukola Saraki supporters to finally resolve the crisis which trailed the emergence Saraki.
The Party wanted Ahmed Lawan as Senate President but Saraki snatched the post. Same way the party wanted Femi Gbajabiamilia as Speaker but Yakubu Dogara outsmarted the party as well.
