Operatives of the Delta State Police Command on Sunday foiled a 4-man armed robbery attack at Akporero Street in Ovwian, when the Police acting on a distress call, stormed the scene but were engaged in a shootout by the robbers.
Two of the armed robbers were however killed by the crack police team and two others escaped with injuries leading to the recovery of two locally cut to size guns and expended ammunition.

 Giving details of the incident, a statement from the office of CP Ibrahim Zanna titled ‘Death of Armed Robbers’ said, “On Sunday, 21st May 2017, at about 3.30pm, a distress call was received from Mr. Oveije U. Vitalis residing at Akporero Street, Ovwian.
“He said that four armed men came into his house and other him and his family to surrender their phones and money.
“Based on the distress call, the Anti-Robbery Squad swung into action and the armed robbers on sighting the Patrol team, opened fire at the Police. The Police engaged them and in the ensuing shootout, two of the armed robbers were gunned down.
Two locally made cut to size guns were recovered and one expended cartridge were recovered from the robbers.
The statement added that Detectives are on high gear to arrest other fleeing armed robbers of the gang.
