Army Averts Communal Clashes in Gombe State; Arrest 10 Masterminds; warns public to beware of recruitment fraudsters.

Troops of 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support) have averted a communal clash over a disputed land between Biliri and Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State following a timely intervention. 

The troops immediately mobilized to the troubled spots on getting the information about the impending crisis. 

10 suspects believed to be the masterminds of the trouble were arrested by the troops. 

Items recovered include; one AK 47 rifle loaded with 28  rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, one G3 rifle loaded with 21 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition and one double barrel gun. 

Others are 10 locally fabricated guns, 39 cartridges, 3 Knives, 4 knock out bangers, one round of 9mm ammunition, bottles of gun powders, locally fabricated rounds and assorted charms. 

A statement by Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, urged members of the general public to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agency for prompt action. 

Meanwhile, The Army said its attention has been drawn to the activities of a syndicate trying to defraud members of the public of their hard earned money through alleged recruitment into the Nigerian Army. 

The Army stated that “recruitment into the Nigerian Army is free and no intermediary is required before being recruited into the Army”. 

Its statement said, “The Army is not embarking on any replacement of any candidate for whatever reason as claimed by the said publication. 

“The general public is advised to always adhered strictly to the Nigerian Army criteria for recruitment to avoid being duped by unscrupulous elements in the society.”
