Authorities of the Nigerian Army have confirmed that an officer and three soldiers were killed in a clash with Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State last week Wednesday.

Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, disclosed that troops attached to Operation Lafiya Dole were on the trail of a band of terrorists in Doho, Mina, Maideni, Donari, Salari and Lawari villages in the northern part of the state when the incident happened.

According to Usman, the terrorists had attempted to infiltrate Magumeri village but were however repelled by soldiers who gave them a chase.

He said that after a hot chase and mop up, the troops were able to neutralize an unconfirmed number of Boko Haram terrorists.

“They also recovered one gun truck, two anti-aircraft guns, two extra barrels, two rocket propelled grenade bombs, 31 pieces of Nitrogen 57mm bombs, one roll of Nitrogen cable and a 60mm mortar bomb.

Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander of the 35 Artillery, Alamala Barracks, Ibadan, Brigadier General Bassey Adonkie has expressed worry over the porosity of the barracks.

Adonkie said the porosity had made the barracks to be prone to all manners of infiltrators that might want to take the advantage of the development to embarrass the Nigerian Army.

He stated this at the foundation laying of perimeter fence phase I and commissioning of other projects embarked upon by the Brigade Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks.

Brigadier General Adonkie said the erection of the new structure would give the barrack a facelift as well as prevent land invasion by land grabbers while calling on government to support the force in provision of more modern infrastructure across military formations in the country.

According to him, the most worrisome was the porous nature of barracks which makes such barracks prone to all manners of infiltrators and criminal elements who may want to take the advantage of the barracks porosity to embarrass the Nigerian Army in that axis.
