Army in Show of Force in Rivers.

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt has advised residents of Port Harcourt not to panic over the movement of troops in the city.

 Col. Aminu Iliyasu, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations of the division made the announcement in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He explained that the movement was due to an annual route march coming up on Feb. 17. Iliyasu explained that the route march was a one-day exercise, designed to assess the physical fitness and endurance of troops.

“To this end, residents and commuters within Port Harcourt metropolis are hereby informed as they will witness large body of troops conducting exercise from 6 a.m.

“The route march will kick off from 6 a.m. along Ikwerre Road-Rumuigbo Roundabout-NTA Road-East-West Road to Rumuokoro and then terminate at the Port Harcourt Barracks.

“The general public should not panic as this is a routine annual event of the Nigerian Army.” Iliyasu said adding “the notice was purely for safety of the public.”
