Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has cautioned soldiers, senior non commissioned officers and officers cadre of the Nigerian Army to desist from indiscriminate use of the social media to protest of publish sensitive information.
He noted that publication of sensitive information in social apart from falling to the hands of those who do not wish security agencies well, could be counter productive to operations and intelligence exercises aimed at ensuring peace and security particularly during internal security duties.
Consequently the Army Chief who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Major General Rasheed Yusuf at the 2018 workshop on Management and Document security for officers announced that the Army would soon establish a Directorate to monitor the use of social media by personnel of the Army.

Buratai said the workshop aimed at improving the managerial abilities of middle cadre officers, is timely due to the enormous contributions of this cadre towards operational the army’s engagements.
Already, he noted that a similar workshop has been held in Lagos for Clerks to broaden their horizon and operational roles.
Welcoming participants, Chief of administration, Nigerian Army, Major General Idris Alkali noted that officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army were involved in several operations within and outside the country hence the need for personnel to improve on their professional competence and catch up with modern trends in theatres of operation.
He said it will enable troops key into the vision of the Chief of Army Staff which is to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.
