AVM Olufunsho Martins (Rtd), Driver die in 3rd Mainland Bridge Accident

Air Vice Marshal OG Martins, a one-time Chief of Logistics at NAF headquarters as well as one-time Director of Airforce Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), died on Saturday in a ghastly motor accident that occurred at the 3rd Mainland ridge in Lagos.

According to LASEMA officials, bodies of the retired AVM Martins and his driver were recovered after the Ford Explorer Sports Utility Vehicle they were driving plunged into the Lagoon.

The incident occurred around 10.55pm Saturday night by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront end of the bridge.

A relative of the deceased AVM confirmed the report noting that officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and local fishermen recovered the bodies from the submerged vehicle at about 2:30am.

Another relative (Cousin), a retired Army Major General said, “It is so tragic, so sad. We lost AVM Olufunsho Martins on Saturday to accident which occurred at the 3rd Mainland Bridge accident.

“May the good Lord grant repose to the soul of the departed and give succour to the bereaved. He giveth and he taketh. But Lord, why do the good ones leave so early” the General wondered.

General Manager LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu while confirming the incident said, “This is a sad incident. I can only tell you that we recovered two bodies. I cannot say who they are because it won’t be fair to the families to learn about the demise of their loved ones from the media.”
