Banditry: GOC 2 Division, Nigerian Army visits Forward Operations Base, Kaiama, Kwara State.

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Okwudili Fedelis Azinta on Wednesday May 30 2018 visited the Forward Operation Base, Kaiama, in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Kaiama town in Kaiama LGA of Kwara State lies in the border between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

The area had been under siege of armed bandits, kidnapers, and criminals.

These bandits commit crime and easily escape through the border into Benin Republic.

Some of them plan their crime in Benin Republic, come into Kaiama to commit crime and run back into Benin Republic.

The reason why Kaiama is a safe place for these criminals is because of lack of military presence in Kaiama.

For quite a long time, the Nigerian Army barrack that existed in Kaiama was withdrawn, in the early 1970s and, since then no military presence had been established in the area.

Early, this year, because of rate of crime that was in increase, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Okwudili Fidelis Azinta established a Temporary Forward Operation Base at Kaiama town, in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State to checkmate the increased criminal activities in Kaiama general area in assistance to the Nigeria Police and civil authority.

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army took a day work visit to Kaiama to propose a permanent Forward Operation Base at Kaiama.

During the visit, the GOC and members of his entourage where received by the Chairman, Kaiama Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar Bata.

The Chairman led him to some sites at Kaiama that could be used for the proposed permanent Forward Operation Base.

The GOC 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Okwudili Fidelis Azinta also paid courtesy call on the Emir of Kaiama, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Umar Kiyaro Muazu.

The GOC also addressed troops of 2 Division Nigerian Army who were deployed at the temporary Forward Operation Base, Kaiama.

In his address he advised the troops to be law abiding and to continue to remain loyal to civil authorities in the area.

He urged them to always come to the aid of civil authority whenever they are called to do so.

The visit ended with a lunch at the Emir’s palace. The GOC, Major General Azinta then presented a souvenir to the Emir, Alhaji Umar Kiyaro Muazu on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.
