Banditry: UNHCR/NCR commends Nigerian Army’s intervention in Zamfara; seeks support towards enhanced welfare for IDPs.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the National Commission for Refugees (NCR) have commended the 1 brigade Nigerian Army for the major role it played in curtailing armed banditry other criminalities in Zamfara state.

Speaking on behalf of both organizations during a courtesy visit to the brigade headquarters in
Gusau, Alhaji Dahiru Bagiwa also commended the brigade for its concerted efforts in fostering lasting peace in the state.

Bagiwa had on Tuesday, 30 July, 2019, led a delegation on a fact finding visit to IDP camps in Zamfara state which is fallout of vicious armed bandit’s killings and attacks on several communities in the state

Addressing the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Linus Udeagbala and principal officers, Bagiwa said the delegation of officials from the two organizations were in his office to seek the support and assistance of the Brigade in the implementation of strategic development programmes aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Alhaji Bagiwa added that the team was on a fact-finding mission to Zamfara state to ascertain the level and condition of identified IDPs camps in the state noting that, “the outcome of this mission will form the basis of several strategic development programmes aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of all IDPs in the state.”

Outgoing Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Linus Udeagbala in his remarks, thanked the joint UNHCR/NCR team for the visit and assured of the brigade’s cooperation and support as much as possible.

Present at the visit were the incoming Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Olatokunbo Bello, the outgoing Commander, Brigadier General Linus Udeagbala, Principal Staff Officers of the Brigade, officials of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, and officials from the National Commission for Refugees.
