The Nigerian Army said on Tuesday that its troops of 1 Brigade, 1 Division, deployed at Anka Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State on Operation Sharan Daji, received information that suspected armed bandits were crossing with rustled animals along Kuran Mota cattle route in Anka LGA.
The troops mobilized and ambushed and engaged the suspected armed bandits in a fierce gun battle.
The armed bandits however, fled and abandoned 269 cows and 241 sheep.
The recovered animals were safely moved to Anka and will be handed over to Zamfara State Government officials who would hand over to the legitimate owners.

In a related development, troops of 223 Battalion, 1 Division Nigerian Army, on the same day, in conjunction with men of Department of State Service conducted a joint raid operation on suspected armed bandits’ settlement in Dandume LGA of Katsina State. A statement by Brigadier General Sani Usman, Director Army Public Relations, said, “The team recovered 1 x AK-47 rifle, 1 rifle magazine, 1,253 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and 1 motorcycle.
Also, troops of 1 Division on Operation Sharan Daji deployed at Magami, Gusau LGA of Zamfara State on Tuesday 26th September responded to a distress call on armed bandits operating along Jengebe-Gusau road robbing hapless civilians.
The troops mobilized immediately and engaged the bandits, in the process they killed 1 bandit and captured 1 another, while some escaped with gunshot wounds.
The troops recovered 1 locally made Pistol, 1 Tecno mobile telephone handset, a female Handbag, 1 wallet and the sum of N20, 000.00k.
