Bayelsa INEC Boss Visits CP Don Awunah; CP seeks working partnership to sustain democracy.

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State, CP Don Awunah on Friday hosted the new Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa State, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe alongside other senior staff of the Commission at his office.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner remarked that being newly posted to Bayelsa State as the INEC helmsman; he deemed it necessary to visit the Commissioner of Police who is also the Chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in the State.

He promised to work closely with the Bayelsa State Police Command assuring the CP of regular visits to his office in future.

Responding, CP Don Awunah welcomed the Resident Electoral Commissioner to Bayelsa State, stating that the Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission are critical partners in the sustenance of democracy by ensuring safety in the State for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections.

He pointed out that while INEC midwifes democracy, the Police processes and gives credibility to electoral process through the provision of security.

 The Command wishes to call on all Bayelsans to shun any act of electoral violence in whatever form as any infraction of the law will be dealt with decisively by the Police” he said.
