Boko Haram Terrorists kidnap oil survey team in northeast Nigeria – NNPC

Gun men suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists have kidnapped 10 members of a university research team prospecting for oil in northeast Nigeria.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC which contracted the work to the research team, confirmed the abduction on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that NNPC has been surveying for oil for more than a year due to its belief that vast oil reserves abound in the Lake Chad Basin.

The region has been rendered almost desolate for more than eight years by a murderous Islamist insurgency, which has killed at least 20,000 people and forced some 2.7 million to flee their homes.
